A Headstart on Halloween Cards

I’d be hard-pressed to decide whether Halloween or Christmas is my favorite holiday…I guess the truth is I love all holidays or any excuse to celebrate anything.  When I found this Gruffies stamp at a local craft store, it had my name written all over it, so here is my first of probably many Autumn-themed cards this year:

I colored the image using Prismacolor pencils and blended the colors with baby oil.  I really liked how this patterned paper looked with the colored image, but it was a vertical pattern (little acorns) from a 4×6 DCWV mat stack so I had no way of covering more of the card front…so frustrating!!!  I decided to offset the patterned paper and add some ribbon from American Crafts instead.  Here is a detail shot so you can appreciate this beautiful illustration:

The image was still quite large even after I trimmed it down as best I could…so rather than overwhelm the card with a large matted sentiment, I pulled in some of the red from the ribbon with a simple “Boo!” spelled out in slim letter stickers from Kelly Purkey.
Hope you enjoyed this and thanks for stopping by!
