Bloom with Hope Watercolor Birthday Card

A few days ago, I blogged about this gift card box that I had made for a special friend’s birthday.  Today, I’m sharing the matching card I made for her.  The main image is from the “Bloom With Hope” set from Stampin’ Up and stamped on watercolor paper with black ink from Stamps by Judith.  Using the “smash your ink pad on a craft mat” method, I colored the image with a waterbrush from Faber-Castell and Barn Door, Crushed Olive, Squeezed Lemonade, and Broken China distress inks.  I really like how the faint blue outline highlights that image.

Once dry, I adhered the watercolor panel on top of some paper from the “Tea for 2” collection from Cosmo Cricket to match my gift card box.  The sentiment, also from the “Bloom with Hope” set, was stamped with Versamark ink onto some Silhouette Vellum, covered with gold embossing powder, and heat-set.  The vellum from Silhouette is a little bit heavier than even the popular 40# vellum from Bazzill so it holds up really well to heat embossing.  I faked a banner shape by adhering two flagged ends to the back of the panel a little bit lower than the front of the banner.
The background panel (Five Line Background by Hero Arts) was stamped in Wedding Dress Memento Luxe ink on some Neenah Desert Storm cardstock.  Then I started getting carried away with gold…first I traced the edges with a metallic gold marker (American Crafts), then added long stitching lines with the same marker (which thankfully aren’t that noticeable because I didn’t like them!), and finally added some gold metallic sequins.
The whole card front is then popped up on top of a Neenah Desert Storm 100# cardbase.  There was quite a bit of dimension on this card, but since it was being hand-delivered with my gift box it was ok.
I’d love to hear your comments!
