Last week I posted a birthday card where I used a design I created in Silhouette Studio as an overlay (you can find that post here – free cut file provided). Today I used the same design to cut a reusable stencil out of overhead transparency film on my Cameo. I’ve never tried this before, but it worked perfectly the first time. Transparency films vary in thickness, but mine cut beautifully using the settings for “Clear Sticker Paper” that are loaded into the Studio software…so if you try it, that may be a good place to start.
For the first card, I started by securing my stencil down with post-it tape and sponging three Memento Luxe Inks over top (Pear Tart, Wedding Dress, and Love Letter). I pieced the sentiment together using several stamps from the “Banners & Messages” set from Hero Arts and inked up specific sections in different colors using Jennifer McGuire’s “Multi-inking with Washi Tape” technique. Then I matted the panel over some patterned paper from the Echo Park “‘Tis the Season” 6×6 pad and flagged the end.
The second card came together pretty quickly too. I stamped over my stencil with the “Canvas Stripes” cling stamp from Hero Arts using Cherry Cobbler ink from Stampin’ Up, then did a sketchy trace of the outer rim of each circle using the matching ink marker. I went over the stencil one more time with Peeled Paint Distress Ink, concentrating more of the color at the bottom to create an ombre effect, and then finished the card off with a sentiment from the “Lowercase Greetings” stamp set from Hero Arts. To keep this card masculine, I decided to stop there…I’m pretty sure most of the guys I know don’t want sequins or Wink of Stella on the cards I give them.
