Christmas in July, with Layered Embossed Vellum

Well…it’s like I had no choice…and the flood gates are now open.  I spent the good part of an afternoon yesterday looking through all of my holiday stamps and salivating, and next thing I know one of the color schemes I’m given has red, green, black, and silver in it?  It was too much, and I had to make a Christmas card…and I can’t promise that the next 30 cards or so that I post won’t be Christmas-themed as well.  I wanted to try all of the new techniques today but there are only so many hours in the day…so I chose layered stamped vellum because my Christmas deer stamps were begging to be part of a scene:
I tried stamping on my vellum first, but I didn’t like the way the ink feathered so I settled on embossing both of the vellum layers.  My favorite part of this technique was that if I mess up stamping one image, I don’t have to keep re-stamping all of the others!  I can also stamp a ton of different vellum layers in all different locations and pick the ones that make the best scene.  My least favorite part was that photos barely show how pretty the card turns out in real life.  I used “Winter Scene” by Hero Arts to stamp the image in the distance on white cardstock, embossed “Christmas Deer” by Stampin’ Up on the second layer, and then framed out my sentiment with embossed greenery I created using the “Fir Branch” by Stamps by Judith.  My vellum was actually sparkly to give the effect of snow falling:

I’d love to hear your comments, and thanks so much for stopping by!
