When I’m running low on crafty mojo, I tend to focus on creating loose and fun backgrounds that can be used for cards later on when I’m ready to get back into it. Today I’m pulling out the Wonderland Storytime Paint Pens from Spellbinders to make this bright confetti background for a clean and simple birthday card. These pens contain matte acrylic paint…and since it’s opaque, you can use it to write or draw over dark or even painted and inked surfaces!
Although incredibly fun to use freehand for a super loose background, I thought I’d use an embossing folder with the pens this time for a little depth and color. I started by embossing a piece of Black Pearl cardstock with the Yummy Dots Embossing Folder, then painted over the embossed areas with all five colors of paint pens. Since you get two nib sizes in this set of pens, it’s easy to color both the large and small dots on this design.
Note: I used pearl cardstock for two reasons…the coated surface allows the pens to glide over top without the paper pilling and the shimmer provides a nice contrast to the matte paint colored on top.
Once I had colored the entire panel, I matted it with another piece of black pearl cardstock using foam adhesive and adhered it to a side-folding A2-size white card base. The sentiment was foiled onto white pearl cardstock using the Thank You & Happy Birthday Hot Foil Plate Set, Black Hot Foil, and my Glimmer Hot Foil Machine. After foiling, I cut it out using the Essential Circles Die Set and mounted it on the card base with foam adhesive.
