Embossing Paste and the Newest OWH Stamps

I rarely jump on bandwagons, but this embossing paste trend has just been so hard to ignore with everyone and their cousin making video after video using it on cards.  While I did break down and buy those little jars of clear and white paste, I couldn’t rationalize purchasing any stencils when I have a Cameo that is more than capable of cutting any design I want.  So I grabbed the pretty snowflake pattern from this card design in the online store and cut it out of some acetate to make a reusable stencil.

I spread a fairly thin coat of paste over my stencil and set it aside to dry while I worked on the rest of my card.  The snowbanks were cut freehand out of some shimmer paper and inked on the edges with Broken China distress ink.  Then I stamped on a sentiment from the “Seasons Greetings” set by Fiskars in Versafine Onyx Black ink.  The polar bears are from the new Operation Write Home fundraiser stamp set called “Lil Hoot” (Hero Arts) and I just added a little grey shading with some Prismacolor pencils and a festive necklace using a holly stamp from Wplus9’s “Merry & Bright” set.

I didn’t like how my snowbanks were shimmery but the embossing paste was matte, so I finished off my card by going over each little snowflake with clear Wink of Stella glitter.  I can’t wait to try coloring my paste next…lots of ideas!
I’d love to hear your comments and thanks for stopping by!
I am entering this in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge found here.

  1. This turned out great! I have yet to buckle and buy the embossing paste, but I’m getting closer to caving & making the purchase, especially when I see such nice cards like this!
