Floral Lattice Center Step Card

When I think of summertime and lattices, I always think of morning glories.  Growing up, my parents had a pretty amazing vegetable garden with a lattice on one side for climbing cucumbers.  I remember finding a pack of morning glory seeds once and just casually throwing them in the ground at the base of that lattice…and months later realizing that those pretty flowers climbing everywhere were actually my doing!

Somehow, even though we lived in a colder climate, those little morning glories came back each year and reminded me that I’m not such a terrible gardener after all (I try really hard!).  In honor of that happy accident, I created this center step card using one of the new Create-A-Card dies coming to HSN on July 11th from Crafter’s Companion – “Ornate Lattice”.

The Ornate Lattice die is super versatile, but really begs to be covered in pretty flower die cuts or scripty sentiments.  After cutting and embossing it into a pre-cut and scored center-step card blank, I inked through the die with Shabby Shutters (lattice) and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks (center circle).  To give the card a country feel, I added blue woodgrain patterned paper panels to all of remaining white areas.  (I love how you can see the woodgrain through the lattice!)

Then, I die-cut tons of little flowers and leaf flourishes (Crafter’s Companion – retired), inked them with Wilted Violet, Worn Lipstick, and Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Inks (for a matte look), and shaped the petals with my fingers.  Matte enamel dots were used for the flower centers (Eyelet Outlet) and all of the embellishments were added in two corners using liquid glue.

This die gives you plenty of places to tuck a sentiment, so I stamped a fitting one (from the “Bloom” set) in matching purple ink onto vellum, added clear embossing powder, and melted it with my heat tool.  After I added it to the card, I decided I wanted the sentiment to stand out more on the busy background, so I added a slightly shorter piece of white cardstock behind it.

I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek of one of the new Create-A-Card dies coming soon to HSN…come back around on Thursday to check out the “Lace Butterfly” die too!
