Halloween Door Hanger Treat Box

Halloween Door Hanger Treat Box by Annie Williams - Main

Hi again…I’m back today with a cute Halloween treat box idea for any friends, neighbors, or even roommates that you’d like to leave an extra special surprise for this year.  Growing up, my brothers and I always had one set of elderly neighbors that lived all the way to one end of our street, far away from all of the other houses.  They never got many visitors on Halloween night, but my parents always made sure they took us to their home because they loved to see the little trick-or-treaters.  We were always handsomely rewarded for this with multiple king-size candy bars (a trick-or-treater’s jackpot!).  So, to this day, I love to remember their kindness by giving out giant candy bars to a few special people every year for Halloween.

I started out by cutting the base of my door hanger treat box from some Espresso Brown Esse Cardstock using this design (#48104) from the Silhouette Design Store.  Esse cardstock is a great weight for 3D projects like this one and the gorgeous grid-like texture adds a beautiful touch as well.  Although I used my CAMEO to cut the door hanger box, a simple internet search will yield several templates that you could use to cut one by hand if needed.  My treat box only needed to be glued in a few places, so I used Tombow Mono Multi-Purpose Glue, which is a great strong adhesive for 3D projects.

Next, I cut the panels in the design from Tangy Orange Pop Tones cardstock (a very nice “Halloween” orange) to add to my door hanger.  For a little added interest, I dry-embossed the panels using a spiderweb embossing folder (Paper Studio).  Side note: you can achieve a very deep emboss with no cracking using the Pop Tones cardstock.

To really emphasize the spiderweb pattern, I gently swept Vintage Photo Distress Ink over the raised surface with the Ranger ink blending tool.

I used Tombow liquid glue again to adhere my panels to the door hanger base because the embossing created an uneven panel surface and tape runner glue may not have held as well.

Lastly, I wanted to add a cute stamped image and sentiment to my box.  The Curious Metallic Super Gold Cardstock was the perfect color for my moon image (“Witch Brew” stamp set), but it can be difficult to stamp on metallic cardstocks at times.  I pulled out my Misti tool and stamped my images five times in the same place with Versafine Onyx Black ink.

After adding black embossing powder to the ink and heat-setting it, I had the perfect deep black images on this gorgeous gold background that I was able to cut out by hand.  The cute sentiment I used can be found in the “Punkin” stamp set by Pink & Main.

My final door hanger box looked like this after adhering the stamped images to base with some Foam Tabs.  When I was done with the assembly, I just added some gold metallic tinsel to the box along with plenty of giant candy bars for my lucky recipient to enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed this easy Halloween project and thanks so much for stopping by today.  I’d also love to hear your comments!
