Handmade Foiled Pinwheels

Nothing says summer like brightly colored pinwheels to me, and with Fourth of July weekend coming soon I thought I’d share this quick and fun project perfect for decorating your garden for that barbecue or handing out to your tiniest guests.

Using silver, ice blue, red, and gold mirror card from the beautiful new Luxury Cardstock assortment packs by Crafter’s Companion, I cut all of the pieces for my pinwheels on my Silhouette CAMEO first (design #81178 – resized to less than 6″ x 6″).  If you don’t have an electronic cutting machine, you can find tons of pinwheel templates on the internet to cut them easily by hand.

I decorated the inside of each wheel with matching foil designs by first rubbing on one of the full 6″ x 6″ background Adhesive Foil Transfers to the white side of the foil paper and then burnishing either teal, silver, gold, or red foil over top.

Assembly is fairly simple from there…just bend the alternating color curls in and secure in the center with a pin pressed into a long bamboo skewer.

To make the pinwheel turn more freely, add a small bead or two to the pin between the back of wheel and the skewer.

I love how they turned out so bright and shiny…perfect for decorating around my yard for the upcoming holiday!  How do you get ready for summer barbecues?
