House Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge – Autumn Leaves!

I was invited to be a Guest Designer for the House Mouse and Friends Challenge Blog (interested parties click here!) this month and next…and I am so excited to share my creations with you!  The theme for this Monday’s Challenge is Autumn Leaves and I already had two wonderful House Mouse stamps in my collection to choose from for my card.  This image is called “Turning Over a New Leaf” (HMKR1045) and I thought it was perfect for making a shaker card:

I colored the image using Spectrum Noir markers (colors listed below) and filled my shaker window with little leaves cut using Lawn Fawn’s new “Stitched Leaves” Lawn Cuts.  I was able to give the leaves some interesting blended coloring by painting long, smooth, overlapping strokes of acrylic paints onto canvasette and die-cutting from this material.

To finish off the card, I created a scalloped frame from some corrugated cardstock using Sizzix framelits and added a fitting sentiment from the Jillibean Soup “Life is Sweet” soup labels.
Tips for shaker cards:  If you’re having trouble with your “shakers” sticking to your acetate window, spritz some Windex onto a paper towel and wipe down the acetate before assembly…I tried the anti-static bags, used dryer sheets, etc. and nothing worked until I did this!  It also helps to dust the sticky edges of the foam tape surrounding your window with a powder tool so your shakers don’t get stuck to the sides.
Thanks for stopping by and I’d be delighted to hear any comments you may have!
