Merry Christmas Serving Platter

Christmas to those of you who celebrate it!  Today’s free design is obviously a timely one and I wanted to share a quick project idea since I’m sure you’re all pretty busy today.  This serving platter/charger looks like you took a lot of time etching it by hand, but can be whipped up in just minutes thanks to Silhouette Frosted Glass Vinyl.  Since the free design is a simpler one, it is a breeze to weed and transfer to any of your last-minute holiday projects.

I chose this simple holly frame to go with my modern “Merry Christmas” sentiment, but I removed the circular frame in the Studio software before cutting it and only adhered the negative shapes.  Since the edges of my plate tilt upward, it would have been difficult to transfer the entire frame to the plate all at once, so I cut the design into quarters and adhered them separately all the way around.

By now you probably know I love glass etching, but for very large projects or pieces I need to finish quickly, you can’t beat the convenience of the Frosted Glass Vinyl since it truly looks like real etching.  And if your charger or platter isn’t made of glass, any of the adhesive vinyl options would look just as beautiful (how about gold or silver?)!

I hope you are enjoying treats as yummy as these right now and are having a great holiday.  I’ll be back next year with more fun projects!

Hi Annie! I love this project! What a great gift idea! I am not having any luck finding the free Merry Christmas design in the Silhouette store. Is there a design number or a certain search word I could use to find it easily?
    Thanks so much!

Hi June! Thanks so much! The free shape doesn’t seem to be in the store right now, so I would check back next week. The number is listed as #71768 according to the link…so that should help you when it finally does get added to the store.
