Mousferatu – Monochromatic Challenge at House Mouse & Friends and a Study in Prismacolor Grey Tones

It’s a new challenge today over at the House-Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge Blog and I’m very excited to continue on as a guest designer for them this month.  If you are interested in playing along, the theme this time is “monochromatic” and you have almost two weeks to submit your entry.  I’ve been in an early Halloween mood lately, so I was immediately inspired to create my own greyscale “movie clip” with one of my favorite stamps, “Interview With a Vampire”:
I thought this was a great opportunity to do a study of sorts with all of the grey tones in my Prismacolor set…I had never really compared them side by side, so now I have a nice reference for future use.

The hands, feet, tails, and faces were all colored with “French Greys” and blended with baby oil.  Vampire mouse and his cape were colored with all “Cool Grey” tones (along with some black and white), while the other mouse and his garlic were colored with the “Warm Greys”.  I blended all of these with baby oil except for the garlic where I wanted to retain some of the texture.
Luckily I found some patterned paper from DCWV that incorporated both warm and cool grey tones, otherwise this may have turned out a little unbalanced.  Something about Halloween or Autumn reminds me of tickets (maybe its the fairs, hayrides, and haunted houses?) so I carried the ticket theme throughout using Sizzix Ticket Framelits and a Ticket punch from EK Success.  I didn’t have the appropriate size ticket shape to mat the sentiment, so I just cut my black rectangle to the correct size and notched the corners using a Fiskars Medium Heart Punch.
Thanks for stopping by and I’d love to hear any comments you may have!
