Print & Cut Strawberry Shortcake Card & Gift Bag

I don’t know about you, but I was thrilled to see the new Strawberry Shortcake designs in the store recently.  Although she and her friends look a little different these days (I actually like their makeovers!), it still brings back fond memories.  My little niece shares my enthusiasm, so I created this card and little gift bag for her upcoming fifth birthday with a little bit of paper piecing and a whole lot of Print & Cut.

The Strawberry Shortcake and background designs come ready-to-go as Print & Cut designs, but I wanted to create a matching building block for her to sit on (with a 5 to indicate which birthday it was).  I started by simply drawing two rounded rectangles that I could layer to create the block, and typed a “5” with the Text Tool using the aptly named LW Block Font.  To be sure that these elements matched perfectly, I filled each shape with colors found in the other designs.  To do this, click on the shape you want to fill (arrow 1), open the Fill Color Menu (arrow 2), click on the eyedropper tool (arrow 3), and then click anywhere within your other designs to select you desired color (arrow 4).  When you are finished with filling all of your shapes, print your designs with registration marks turned on and then send them to your Silhouette to cut.

For my card, I printed the background, Strawberry Shortcake, block, and mat for my sentiment all on white adhesive cardstock for easy assembly.  I toned down the bright background pattern a bit by layering a scalloped rectangle frame on top cut from vellum before adding the rest of my elements.  My sentiment was super intricate at this size (~1 inch tall), so I cut this out of Printable Gold Foil and added a few gold sequins to match.

The matching gift bag is a Print & Cut file, so this came together in no time.  After printing it out on some medium-weight textured white cardstock, I just cut, folded, and glued it together.  Then I added one of the oval designs that comes with the bag to the front and attached handles I made from some white grosgrain ribbon.  I’ll be filling this bag with lots of stickers and other goodies for my niece’s birthday, but I can guarantee it’ll probably turn into a little tote for her dolls.
