Sandy Beach Tags

I picked up a couple of boxes of that kinetic sand at Michaels the other day as a small summertime gift for my niece and nephew.  Since I don’t get to see them as much as I’d like, I always like to package these little presents up nicely before shipping in the hopes that they might be a bit more memorable…so these are the two tags I made for them:

I started out by punching some Neenah Solar White (110#) into tags using the new tag topper punches from Stampin’ Up.  I don’t buy a ton of punches and dies since my Silhouette can cut almost any shape I could ever want, but these just seem like they’re going to be so useful it made sense.  Then I made a couple of cloud masks using dies from the “Blue Skies” Lawn Cuts set and sponged “Broken China” Distress Ink over the entire tag to create the background.
The sandy beach was created by sprinkling chunky gold and black embossing powder over a panel of tan shimmer paper and heat-setting this from underneath (so as not to blow the embossing powder everywhere!).  My shimmer paper was pretty lightweight, which made the embossing a little challenging because I had to find a way to not to blow the paper around while heat-setting too, but I like the final effect so I think it was worth it.
The ocean ripples were created by coloring the back of some sparkle vellum with my Spectrum Noir markers and, believe it or not, cutting the edges with a pair of those old-school decorative edge scissors!  I have about five pairs of these from almost 15 years ago when I made my first (and probably last) scrapbook and am so glad to have found a use for them again.  Layering the colored vellum made a nice ripply effect for my ocean surf.
And here’s a detail shot of my sand and surf…I still have some scraps left over of both so I may just have to make a card this weekend with the extra pieces.  All of the images were colored using Spectrum Noir markers, and I’ve listed the stamps and colors below in case you are interested.
Thanks for stopping by and I’d love to hear your comments!
