Sparkly Florals Card

Sparkly Hibiscus Card by Annie Williams - Main

After weeks of Christmas cards and other holiday projects here on my blog, I really thought it was time for some bright and cheerful florals.  This card uses the new Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens from Crafter’s Companion.  These can be used in very similar ways to other water-based markers, so here I’ve just watercolored these beautiful hibiscus flowers with them.  The result is a soft watercolor look with a ton of gorgeous shimmer.

Here is a better look at all of that sparkle!  I started by stamping the flowers and leaves from the “Wild Rose & Hibiscus” stamp set in Versamark ink onto some Crafter’s Companion Watercolor Cardstock.  Then I added white embossing powder on top and melted it with my heat tool.  The coloring was quite simple from there – apply the darkest shade in the center of the image, pull the color out a bit with the lighter shade, and then pull the lighter shade out to the edges with the clear marker (colors used are listed below).

Once my coloring was finished, I framed a sentiment from the one of the “Sentimentals” sets with a panel made from Black Pearl shimmering cardstock.  After die-cutting a scalloped oval window for the sentiment, I embossed the panel with the “Gun Metal” embossing folder to add a beautiful woven texture.  Three levels of foam adhesive were used to add the floral frame to my card and give it a ton of dimension.

I hope you enjoyed this card project and would love to hear your comments.  I don’t know about you, but after only a few days of official “winter”, I already needed some Spring!

Very pretty card. I notice that a lot of people tend toward tropical colors in their card making this time of year. I know that I feel like using some pink, turquoise, and orange…with floral images. I am not familiar with the pens that you used. Maybe I will look for a video. Thank you for sharing your card. Happy New Year.

Thanks JaMiro! The Sparkle Pens were introduced in the US only just recently, but there are some great videos out there already. Happy New Year to you too!
