Summer Card Camp Day 5 – New Color Challenge

Although I loved the color combination provided this week, I was thrilled to see a whole new set of colors to play with today.  I immediately started envisioning a porthole when I saw Kristina’s window card and the first set of colors that seemed to be nautical-inspired to me.  Here is what I came up with:
I cut circular windows into two pieces of Neenah Solar White using my Cameo.  I also cut the porthole from some bronze and gold foil paper (Recollections) using this design from the Silhouette Online Store.  I wanted my porthole to look like it had sea spray on it, so I embossed the acetate using the Swiss Dots folder from Cuttlebug.  For the sentiment, I used the “Sunnier Days” stamp set from Simon Says Stamp and heat-embossed it in white on purple cardstock from Stampin’ Up and then inked the edges with blue ink.  Lastly, I took the white cardstock that would be the exterior layer of my card and heat-embossed a clear wood grain on it using the Hero Arts/Basic Grey “Wood Background” stamp (CG-506).  This detail shot gives a better idea of the texture achieved using all of these techniques:

I wanted the porthole to be looking out onto a lighthouse, but I couldn’t believe in my entire collection of stamps, I didn’t have a single lighthouse!  So I quickly sketched out a lighthouse on a rocky beach using a black Sharpie and colored it in with colored pencils.  I matted my mini “painting” on some royal blue cardstock and then adhered it to the second piece of Neenah Solar White.  When the two pieces of white cardstock were then adhered together, sandwiching the embossed acetate, it formed a little booklet.

I would love to hear any comments you may have and thanks for stopping by!
