Happy Monday friends! I’m excited to be back today to share a bunch of projects made with both the new More BetterPress Christmas Collection as well as the original BetterPress Christmas Collection (released in July, but I never had time to share these before!) from Spellbinders. (Check out the rest of the September release here…so much amazing stuff this month!) These collections contain press plates featuring tons of holiday images, sentiments, and even complete backgrounds. Here I created eight simple cards with watercoloring, inkblending, and more, perfect for sending a holiday hello.
SNOWY PINES CHRISTMAS CARD
One of my favorite press plates from both releases has got to be the Seasons Greetings Evergreens BetterPress Plate Set. There is so much detail in this gorgeous image! I pressed the design onto Porcelain Cotton Cardstock using BetterPress Black Ink and watercolored the scene with my Peerless Watercolors.
Once dry, I added some snowflakes to the sky with a white paint pen and matted the panel with Onyx Cardstock before adhering it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base. To finish off the card, I pressed the sentiment from the set onto more Porcelain Cotton Cardstock, cut it out with the coordinating die, and popped it up in the top corner with foam adhesive. I love this peaceful and pretty scene!
BLUE CHRISTMAS POINSETTIA CARD
I love a good monochromatic card for the holidays and BetterPress plates are perfect for this next technique. I started by pressing the Poinsettia Corner BetterPress Plate onto Glacier Cardstock using Cosmic Sky BetterPress Ink. Then I added shadows to the image with a medium blue Tombow Dual Brush Pen and highlights with a white paint pen.
To assemble the card, I matted the panel with Cosmic Sky Cardstock and added it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base. Then I pressed the sentiment from the set onto white cardstock, popped it up in the top corner of the card, and embellished with Crystal Mix Gems.
STRIPED BOLD SENTIMENT CARD
Spellbinders has created some really beautiful bold sentiment press plates that are perfect for acting as the focal point of cards too. Here I created my own striped background out of Mirror Silver, Glacier, Raindrop, Cosmic Sky, Purple Mist, Lilac Blossom, and Royal Amethyst Cardstock by just cutting different thicknesses of strips and adhering them to a piece of scrap paper before trimming it all down to 4″ x 5.25″.
The All Is Calm BetterPress Plate was pressed onto Porcelain Cotton Cardstock using Hydrangea, Coastal, and Cosmic Sky BetterPress Ink for an ombre effect and then cut out using one of the Essential Arches Dies. Once adhered to the card front with foam adhesive, I added a few matching flowers and leaves cut with the Make It Merry Florals Die Set.
VINTAGE SANTA CHRISTMAS CARD
And I couldn’t leave this adorable Santa image un-inked…so I pressed the Holly Jolly Santa BetterPress Plate onto Bisque Cotton Cardstock using Bark BetterPress Ink and added just a few detail shadows with a light brown watercolor from my Peerless palette. Then I blended Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges of the panel to age it a bit.
To finish off the card, I matted my panel with Pomegranate Cardstock and added it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base. Then I pressed the sentiment from the set onto Bisque Cotton Cardstock using some red dye ink from my stash, cut it out with the coordinating die, and added it to the top corner with foam adhesive.
SIMPLE INK BLENDED BETTERPRESS CARD
What I love about BetterPress designs is that they are so detailed, you really don’t have to do much else to them if you don’t want to and you can still create a beautiful card. Here I pressed the Merry Christmas & Happy New Year BetterPress Plate onto Porcelain Cotton Cardstock using BetterPress Black Ink and then blended Cracked Pistachio, Evergreen Bough, and Pine Needles Distress Ink down the panel with a foam blending tool.
To highlight the banners and give the card a little bit of interest, I applied clean water to the two banners in the design and dabbed away the ink, lightening the areas a tad. Then I just trimmed the panel to 4″ x 5.25″ and mounted it onto a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive.
CHRISTMAS CARDINAL CARD
And how beautiful is the Christmas Greetings BetterPress Plate?! I pressed the image and sentiment from the set onto Porcelain Cotton Cardstock using BetterPress Black Ink before coloring it in using Peerless Watercolors. Once dry, I blended Salty Ocean Distress Ink around the edges with a foam blending tool.
The panel was matted with Mirror Silver Cardstock and adhered to a top-folding A2-sized white card base. Then I added a few Silver Mix Gems to embellish.
TOP HAT TURTLE DOVE CARD
Another cute bird image is this fun turtle dove wearing a top hat from the Joyeux Noel BetterPress Plate Set…I pressed him onto Bisque Cotton Cardstock using Bark BetterPress Ink before coloring him quickly with Peerless Watercolors (and splattering a bit of blue paint on the background). Then I trimmed him out into a square and matted the panel with Mirror Gold Cardstock.
To create the background, I embossed some Partly Cloudy Cardstock with the Flurry Of Snowflakes 3D Embossing Folder before matting it with Mirror Gold Cardstock and adhering it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base. Then I popped the image up on the top of the card front with foam adhesive and added a sentiment foiled in gold using the Comfort & Joy Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set.
HOLLY TREE BETTERPRESS CARD
Lastly, I wanted to share this simple and pretty Christmas card made with the Holly Tree BetterPress Plate. I chose three teal dye inks from my stash to press this gorgeous design onto Porcelain Cotton Cardstock for a pretty ombre effect. Then I blended more teal ink around the edges before matting it with Mirror Silver and pink cardstock and adhering it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base.
The sentiment from the set was pressed onto Porcelain Cotton Cardstock using pink ink and cut out with the coordinating die before popping it up in the center of the card with foam adhesive. To finish off the card I added some pretty matching pearls from my stash all over the tree.
