Christmas Poinsettia Card

I have a friend who makes over a hundred handmade Christmas cards by August of every year.  She is always ready to mail hers out as soon as the turkey has left the table on Thanksgiving night.  I admire that sort of preparedness in others, but I’m definitely the kind of girl who’s still making cards and tags on Christmas Eve.  This year I have a pretty good start though, and today I’m adding one more fun and festive card to the stash with some gorgeous stencils and dies from Hero Arts.

I started by trimming a piece of Arctic Cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and securing it under the Poinsettia Stencil with some low-tack tape.  Then I spread a nice even coat of Red Velvet Glitter Glitz Gel over top with a plastic palette knife.  After removing it from my cardstock, I immediately rinsed the stencil in warm, soapy water.  (Check out that crisp detail you get with the Glitter Glitz Gel…I seriously love this stuff!)

Next I took a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock and placed the Christmas Fancy Die about one-third of the way down and as far to the right as possible and ran it through my diecutting machine.  I removed the extra piece of cardstock from the top with just a straight snip from my scissors.  Repeat the same steps with a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of Kiwi Cardstock.

Die cut the two smallest “petal” layers, single leaf, and flower center of the Paper Layering Poinsettia die set with Cherry, Kiwi, and Canary cardstocks, respectively.

The Paper Layering Poinsettia can be assembled as-is because it has lots of fun die-cut details already, but I chose to give it a little more shape with my flower shaping tools and add a little shimmer with a clear sparkle pen.  Once dry, I adhered the layers togethers using strong liquid glue.

To assemble the card, create a white top-folding A2-sized card base and adhere the stenciled background panel on top using tape runner.  Then layer the Kiwi die cut sentiment panel beneath the white panel, allowing the green to peek out from behind the “merry” as a slight shadow.  Inlay the green “Christmas” die-cut within the white panel before adhering these on top of the card base with foam squares.

Adhere the layered poinsettia just to the left of the sentiment with liquid glue and admire all of the sparkle and shine!

I hope you enjoyed this fun and festive Christmas card project and thanks so much for stopping by today.  A new challenge begins over at A Blog Named Hero on the 15th with great prizes from Hero Arts, so I hope you’ll join us!
