Since I tend to send Easter cards only to my younger nieces and nephews, I like to make them kinda different and fun. This card project is easy to pull together thanks to lots of die-cutting using supplies from the February 2018 My Monthly Hero Kit from Hero Arts, a few simple techniques, and some gorgeous metallic cardstocks available in the CutCardStock store.
Start by trimming a piece of Neenah Desert Storm Cardstock (100 lb) to 7″ x 10″ and scoring it in the center along the longest edge. Then trim a piece of Curious Metallic Ice Silver Cardstock to 4.875″ x 6.875″.
Trim a piece of Stardream Metallic Lagoon Cardstock to 4.75″ x 5.75″. Using an oval die (Elizabeth Crafts), first die-cut the shape out of the top center of the panel. Then emboss a fun woodgrain texture into the panel using a 5″ x 7″ or larger embossing folder.
Assemble the card base as shown. First, fold the scored kraft panel in half and mount the Ice Silver panel directly on top with tape runner. Then, tie a bow of natural twine around the aqua window panel and adhere it on top using foam tabs.
Die-cut a bird’s nest out of Curious Metallic Cognac Cardstock. To give the nest dimension, ink around the edges and the “inside” with a Gathered Twigs Distress Ink using a sponge dauber.
For the brightly-dyed Easter eggs, I just took a few practice alcohol ink backgrounds that I had made previously (and wasn’t very happy with!) and die-cut a small egg shape from some of the areas that were more speckled or contained interesting color blends. This is a great way to use your scraps that were headed for the recycling bin! (Note: If you don’t have any alcohol inks, you could easily substitute a watercolored or ink-blended background in this step.)
Die-cut a couple of branches from Ice Silver Cardstock and color them with Spectrum Noir markers. You really only need two shades of brown (EB6, EB8) and green (CG3, CG4) here to get some quick and easy dimension on these die-cuts (since the cardstock is coated, blending is actually pretty easy too).
Lastly, die-cut your sentiment (Crafter’s Companion) from the same Ice Silver Cardstock. To bring in a little more pink to the card, I added Worn Lipstick Distress Ink to the bottom of the letters with a sponge dauber.
Assemble the rest of the card as desired. I started by adding the eggs to the nest with a little liquid glue. After placing a few foam tabs on the back of the nest, I wrapped the branches around the nest and then adhered the entire piece to the cardbase with additional foam tabs. The sentiment was then added at the top using liquid glue.
