In the cardmaking world, there is so much beautiful inspiration all around us. Most of the time, I’m inspired by color combinations I see on clothing or home decor or techniques another crafter posts on Instagram. But, a few months ago, I saw this gorgeous card by Janette Kausen on the Hero Arts blog and loved the bold colors and layout, so decided to use her card as a “sketch” for this clean and simple autumn fox card.
I started by stamping the Color Layering Cool Fox on some white cardstock using Soft Apricot Shadow Ink for the first layer, Just Rust Mid-Tone Ink for the detail layer, and Versafine Onyx Black Ink for the ears and feet. For detailed layering stamps like these, I like to use my MISTI to help line up the layers as I’m just a bit clumsy with my acrylic blocks.
Next I masked off the top two inches of an A2-sized white card front using wide Post-It tape and placed it into my MISTI. Then, I stamped the Forest and Deer Bold Prints Stamp over top twice using Cup O’Joe Mid-Tone Ink.
After adding a 1/16″ strip of Chestnut Cardstock over the top edge of the stamped background using a fine-line liquid glue pen, I stamped a sentiment from the Cool Fox stamp set in the upper-right corner of the card front using the same Cup O’Joe Mid-Tone ink.
The card front was adhered to an A2-sized white card base using tape runner. After fussy-cutting the fox image out with scissors (you could make your life easier and buy the matching dies too!), I popped him up using strips of foam adhesive.
