Holiday 3D Embossing Folders from Spellbinders

Hello again friends!  Today I’m excited to share a couple of projects made with one of the new Holiday 3D Embossing Folders from Spellbinders.  The Holiday Floral Swag 3D Embossing Folder has a gorgeous holly berry and leaf design that can be used in many different orientations to achieve different looks thanks to its generous 5.5 x 8.5 size.

MERRY & BRIGHT A7 CARD

For my first card, I wanted to get as much of that gorgeous leafy design on my card front as possible, so I opted for a 5″ x 7″ card.  I started by trimming a piece of Phone Booth Cardstock to 4.75″ x 6.75″ and applied Gold Hot Foil to it using one of the sentiment plates from the Essential Christmas Greetings Glimmer Plate Set.  I then embossed the panel using the Holiday Floral Swag 3D Embossing Folder, ensuring that the sentiment was nestled in the center of the opening in the design.

Once embossed, I rubbed a little gold gilding wax over the raised areas to bring the design out a bit more, then I matted the panel with Mirror Gold Cardstock before adhering it to a top-folding A7-sized white card base.  To embellish, I added a couple of poinsettias and holly leaves cut from white and Fern Cardstock using the Holiday Label Motifs Die Set with a Gold Mix Gem as the flower center.

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS A2 CARD

Next, I wanted to change the orientation and play with a little bit of inking on this beautiful design for a more vintage look.  I started by applying Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink to the Holiday Floral Swag 3D Embossing Folder with a brayer for a nice even coat and embossed Dune Cardstock.  This added a nice warm brown tone to the background, so I then blended Festive Berries, Aged Mahogany, and Ground Espresso Distress Inks over the raised areas with a blending brush.

I matted the panel with Mirror Gold Cardstock and then adhered it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner.  Then I cut the sentiment out of Mirror Gold Cardstock once and Phone Booth Cardstock twice using the Mix & Match Holiday Sentiments Die Set, adhering the layers together and onto the card front with liquid glue.  To finish the card off, I added holly leaves cut from Fern Cardstock using the Holiday Label Motifs Die Set and some Fashion Poppy Pearls as berries.
