I’m thrilled to have the opportunity today to share a couple of projects using the new Make A Scene Collection by Becca Feeken. This is a very unique collection that can be used to create three dimensional scenes behind a slider window, but the die layers can really be used on any kind of card! The beautiful scene builder, fun kinetic card base, and gorgeous accent dies in the collection inspired me to make three cards using the elements in very different ways.
SUNSET GARDEN SLIDER CARD
I had to start out by trying my hand at one of the classic Make A Scene cards first. The Picture Perfect Window Scene die set was the first set to catch my eye and I really wanted to create the feeling of a garden at sunset. To do this, I blended color all over the main pieces of the card base and left my scene in silhouette with glints of light peaking out here or there. For a little contrast and to convey a bit of color, I used deep purple shimmer cardstock for all of the flowers in the scene.
- Die cut the four main panels of the kinetic card base out of white cardstock using the Make A Scene Card Base die set.
- Blend Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide ink over the different panels with a foam blending tool to create a sky at sunset.
- Die cut the two front scene inserts out of black cardstock using the Picture Perfect Window Scene die set.
- To give the window and flower box a subtle highlight, die cut them again out of silver cardstock and adhere them to the back of the black scene inserts, peaking out just a bit.
- Embellish the front inserts with tulips and floral stems cut from black and purple shimmer cardstock.
- Die cut the last scene insert (furthest back) out of white cardstock and blend the same three inks over the panel.
- Embellish the last panel with a sentiment cut from silver cardstock and floral vines cut from black and purple shimmer cardstock.
- Assemble the card base as shown in the instructions. When closed, the card base will lay flat and your recipient will have no idea what’s behind those doors (these card base dies are genius!).
- Die cut black cardstock with the second largest frame in the Scallop Façade Frame die set and adhere it on the front of the card base with liquid glue. Embellish the frame with flowers cut from purple shimmer cardstock.
When the recipient pulls on the side tabs, the doors open and the scene assembles itself almost magically. I found myself opening and shutting it several times just to watch it work!
With so many different scenes to choose from (and even mix and match), think of all of the possibilities with this fun card system!
WEDDING SHAKER CARD
The scenic dies in this collection can be used for much more than just those fun kinetic cards…any window or shaker card works perfectly with them too! Here I added a few of the scene layers over a shaker window for a pretty and feminine wedding card.
- Die cut light pink cardstock using the large outline and inner frame die from the Filigree Façade Frame die set.
- Die cut gold cardstock using the large outline, inner frame, and flourished inserts from the Filigree Façade Frame die set. Adhere it to the pink frame with liquid glue.
- Die cut the gazebo and couple layers out of white, gold, and pink cardstock using the Wedding Bliss Scene die set. Assemble each layer with liquid glue and embellish with tiny white and pink flowers and garland.
- Adhere the couple layer directly to the back of the layered frame with liquid glue.
- Add foam adhesive to the back of the frame and add the gazebo layer behind the couple. Trim a piece of acetate to fit behind the window and press it into the foam adhesive behind the gazebo layer.
- Add another layer of foam adhesive around the window. Place iridescent, clear, and gold sequins in the opening and add to a top-folding A7-sized white card base.
- Die cut the sentiment from the Wedding Bliss Scene die set and adhere to the front of the window with a solvent-based glue.
BEAUTIFUL FRIEND CARD
If you don’t want to create scene cards, this collection also has some gorgeous accessory die sets! I used a couple of them and lots of intricate layers to create this soft and pretty friendship card.
- Create a top-folding A7-sized card base out of white cardstock by trimming it to 7” x 10” and scoring it down the center.
- Using the largest die from the Scallop Façade Frame die set, cut the folded card base into a scalloped card base. Place the top of the die just slightly over the folded edge of the cardstock and run it through your diecutting machine back and forth several times until both layers are cut.
- Die cut mint cardstock with the largest two dies in the Scallop Façade Frame die set and adhere to the card base with foam adhesive.
- Die cut white cardstock with the next largest frame and insert in the Scallop Façade Frame die set and layer it over blue satin mirror cardstock with liquid glue. Pop this panel up on top of the mint layer with foam adhesive.
- Die cut white cardstock with the smallest frame and insert in the Scallop Façade Frame die set and layer it over white cardstock with liquid glue. Pop this panel up on top of the blue flourished layer with more foam adhesive.
- Die cut pink and mint cardstock with the flower layer and leaf dies from the Grand Cinch and Go Flowers die set.
- Ink the tips of the leafy branches with Evergreen Bough Distress ink and the edges of the petals with Spun Sugar Distress Ink. Add a touch of Dried Marigold Distress ink to each petal to brighten them up. Shape the petals with a ball stylus, assemble the flower, and adhere to the card front with liquid glue.
- Foil the sentiment onto white cardstock using the Heart Melt Sentiments Hot Foil Plate Set, Cobalt Hot Foil, and the Glimmer Hot Foil Machine. Pop it up next to the flower with foam adhesive.
