National Coffee Day Blog Hop

Happy National Coffee Day!  Today I’m excited to be playing along in the National Coffee Day Blog Hop using some super cute new Rubbernecker stamps and dies.  My first choice of hot beverage will always be tea or hot chocolate, but I love any reason to celebrate, so let’s get started!

I started by creating the sunrise background for my scene.  First, I cut some white cardstock with the largest die in the Slimline Nested Stitch Dies.  Then I lightly blended Lemon, Custard, Citrus, Apricot, Crimson, and Cinnamon Color Fuse Inks over the panel with a blending brush, concentrating the darker colors to the left because the sun would be rising on the right.

I die cut the city and mountains from dark brown and ruddy orange cardstock using the Slimline Skyline and Tabbed Mountains Dies (after an initial cut with the same large Slimline Nested Stitch die to ensure perfect alignment of borders).  Because the mountain dies are not slimline-sized, I simply performed a quick double cut and knew that any imperfections would be hidden behind the buildings on my card.

I can’t resist a good cat stamp, so I stamped out three of the critters from the Coffee Cats Stamp Set onto white cardstock with alcohol-friendly ink and colored them all in with Copic markers before cutting them out with scissors (I didn’t have the coordinating dies yet!).  I only ended up using one of the cats in the end because I loved the scene too much to cover it up more, so now I have two more cats for a future project!

To assemble, I matted the ink-blended panel with some dark brown cardstock before adhering it to a slimline-sized white card base with tape runner.  Then I added a sentiment from the Coffee Lovers Stamp Set stamped in brown ink to a die-cut “sun” and adhered the mountains and city on top with two layers of foam adhesive.

I love the content look on that kitty’s face as he prepares for his day (and wonder if I would look like that more often in the mornings if I drank coffee!).  I hope you enjoyed this fun slimline coffee card and thanks so much for stopping by today.  To hop along or link up your own creations, head on over to the National Coffee Day Blog Hop here!
