Patriotic Shaker Wand

Hi again!  Today I’m getting you ready for those Memorial Day parades and picnics with this fun patriotic shaker wand.  I have two young kids who love parades, so this is a great little project to get them excited about those summer events.  Since it’s a fairly simple project, it’s also a great way to get them involved in crafts too.

Start by painting one chip form from the Mini Shaker Star with navy blue acrylic paint.  Then paint a ¼” wooden dowel with red acrylic paint.  Allow both to dry fully.

Using the chip back in the mini shaker kit, trace the star shape onto some patriotic patterned paper and then trim the shape out with scissors.

Adhere the patterned paper to the chip back with liquid adhesive and then adhere two of the chip forms on top with more glue.  Pour red, white, and blue sequins into the star shaker.

Peel off the protective film from the acrylic divider and carefully adhere it on top using strong adhesive (I chose red liner tape) to enclose the sequins in the shaker.  Then, adhere the painted chip form on top.  Carefully paint the back and edges of the assembled star shaker with navy blue paint to give it a nice finish.

Adhere the wooden rod to the back of the star shaker with a little hot glue.

Add streamers of red, white, and blue satin ribbon to the rod and then tie a big bow out of patriotic ribbon directly beneath the shaker element to embellish.  These wands are quick are easy to make, so you can mass produce them for a picnic or let the kids make their own.  With tons of mini shaker shapes to choose from, this is a project that works for almost every holiday too!  Which holiday and shaker shape would you choose?
