Sending Paradise Card

I have had a love of palm trees for as long as I can remember.  There is just something about them that instantly takes all of my stress away.  So, when I saw the new Color Layering Palm Tree stamp set from Hero Arts, I knew I had to have it and create with it right away!

I started by die cutting an oval out of some masking paper and placing it on top of a panel of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock measuring 4″ x 5.25″.  Then I adhered a strip of Post-It tape about a quarter of the way up on the oval to create my horizon line and taped off the edges of the cardstock as well (just in case my oval mask didn’t reach all the way to the edge).

After blending Antique Linen and Brushed Corduroy Distress Oxide Inks along the bottom fourth of the oval with an ink blending tool, I removed the Post-It tape and placed it over top of the inked sand.  The rest of the oval was inked with Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide Ink.

I started stamping the first layer of my palm trees onto Neenah cardstock using Soft Brown and Green Hills Shadow Ink…then I realized I wanted to use the coordinating dies to cut out the full tree and that my randomly stamped tree parts weren’t going to fit!  So, I used the die to cut a template out of some cardstock, lined up the stamps within the borders of the template, and restamped the images using my MISTI.

The detail layers were stamped with Cup O’ Joe and Forever Green Shadow Inks using my MISTI to get perfect alignment.  Then I cut each tree out with the coordinating dies.

I added a few speckles into the sand on my background with alcohol markers before popping the panel up on top of a mat layer cut from Gold Mirrisparkle cardstock.  A sentiment from the set stamped in Salty Ocean Distress Ink was matted with the same glitter cardstock and adhered to the card front with foam tabs just like the trees and little monkey.

I hope you enjoyed this easy, breezy summertime card and thanks so much for stopping by today.  A new challenge begins over at A Blog Named Hero on June 15th with great prizes from Hero Arts, so I hope you’ll join us!
