Most of the time when I buy a new stamp set, I choose it because it’s pretty or something really different from what’s in my stash already. Every so often, though, I see a set that would be perfect for a specific recipient and I grab it right away. The cards I make with these sets are always the most fun!
The images in the Lake Time Fun stamp set from Hero Arts remind me so much of my son and husband. They’ve been known to get up at the crack of dawn to spend a few hours fishing together. My son loves this time he spends with my husband so much that I had to make a little stamped scene card for him.
CREATING AN INK BLENDED SUNSET/SUNRISE
- Trace a circle onto a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock using the die you will be cutting the scene out with.
- Mask off the bottom quarter of the circle using a piece of masking paper or Post-It tape.
- Blend Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, Salty Ocean, Blueprint Sketch, and Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink above the masked area with a foam blending tool as shown to create a sunset/sunrise sky backdrop.
- Move the tape or masking paper to cover the top of the circle now instead and blend Tumbled Glass and Faded Jeans Distress Ink below the masked area to create the water. Add a tiny bit of Carved Pumpkin Distress Ink to the water as shown to look like a reflection.
STAMPING THE SILHOUETTE IMAGES
- Place the inked panel into a MISTI and position the silhouette stamps from the Lake Time Fun stamp set on top where desired.
- Stamp the images three times using Versafine Onyx Black Ink for a deep black, solid image.
- You may need to stamp the pier and grasses separately first to ensure the figures sit directly on top of the pier.
- Die cut the image out using the previously selected circle die.
STAMPING THE BACKGROUND IMAGE
- Trim a piece of Pitch Black Cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″.
- Lay the Fishing Pattern Background Stamp face up on your work surface and apply Versamark Ink all over.
- Place the Pitch Black panel onto the background stamp, cover with a piece of scrap paper, and lightly press with your fingers all over the panel for a good impression.
- Add clear embossing powder to the panel and melt with a heat tool.
COLORING THE BACKGROUND IMAGE
- For a little interest and to complement the golden colors in my sunset panel, I decided to color in the fishing lures on the background image with a Metallic Gold colored pencil.
- Color most, but not all, of the open sections in the design for a subtle, warm look.
CARD ASSEMBLY
- Adhere the background panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner.
- Stamp a sentiment from the Lake Time Fun stamp set in Versamark Ink, cover with white embossing powder, and melt with a heat tool.
- Trim the sentiment out with a paper trimmer or scissors and add to the lower right corner of the card with tape runner.
- Pop the stamped sunset scene up on top using foam adhesive.
