Like most of you, as a cardmaker, I have a huge stash of cards just waiting to be mailed out. But since birthday cards are the occasion I most often actually get a card in the mail for (thank you cards are a close second), I never have any when I need them! My goal this year has been to try to make a couple every month so that I’m never caught without one anymore. I thought the tropical plants and jungle animals in the June My Monthly Hero Kit were perfect for creating generic birthday cards that I could use year-round for both male and female recipients.
I started by trimming a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock to 4.125″ x 5.375″ and taping the leafy stencil from the kit down over top of it. Then, using a light hand and one of the larger Picket Fence Life Changing Blending Brushes, I blended Green Hills and Forever Green Shadow Inks over the left half of the panel.
The images were stamped in Versafine Onyx Black Ink onto some Distress Watercolor Cardstock before coloring them with Peerless Watercolors. (The kit actually contains a pretty nice assortment of colors on a watercolor dot palette, but I had taken my Peerless Watercolor palette with me on vacation along with a ton of pre-stamped images last week, so used them instead.)
After stamping a sentiment from the kit onto the inked background panel using my MISTI, I popped it up on top of a top-folding A2 white cardbase with foam adhesive. Then, I arranged the colored plants and animals along the left side of the card and adhered them down with foam tabs.
