Welcome back friends! I’m so excited to be back today to share a couple of projects made with the new 3D Embossing Folder Collection from Spellbinders. It’s no secret that I love to add texture to the backgrounds of my cards with embossing folders, and the gorgeous and versatile 3D designs in this collection are perfect for so many occasions!
TEN GORGEOUS DESIGNS
My favorite embossing folders, the ones I use over and over again, tend to be basic or more subtle patterns that add a lot of interest but don’t steal the show from my focal point. All of the folders in this initial release fit these criteria! I embossed an A2-sized swatch of shimmer cardstock with each of the new folders to give you a quick look at the gorgeous designs. UNIVERSAL PLATE SYSTEM
Spellbinders has also released a new Universal Plate System that makes embossing with 3D embossing folders from nearly ALL manufacturers in the Platinum machines super easy. (I know that I always struggled to find a sandwich that worked with my Sizzix 3D embossing folders because they are thicker than all of the others…) Plus there’s a little extra length on these guys, so you’ll be able to cut and emboss some of the larger slimline-sized dies that have come out lately more easily as well.
FLORAL HELLO CARD
The Circle Illusion 3D Embossing Folder creates such a pretty and pillowy background, I had to try it first. I started by trimming a piece of shimmery aqua cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and running it through my Platinum Machine using the folder with just the A and D plates from the Universal Plate System. Then I adhered this to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with strong tape runner adhesive.
The flowers and leaves were cut from Pink Sand, Wild Berry, and Fern Cardstock using the Layered Cherry Blossom Die Set. After adding a little shading with Picked Raspberry and Rustic Wilderness Distress Ink and a sponge dauber, I assembled the blooms with liquid glue. Yellow Crystal Drops were added to the flower centers to embellish.
I applied Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using both the Mini Sincere Sentiments and Be Bold Glimmer Sentiments Plate Sets with my Glimmer Hot Foil System and cut them out with the coordinating dies. A little circle “wreath” was cut from the white cardstock using the Fluted Classics Circles Die Set and all of the elements were arranged and adhered to the card front with foam adhesive.
SWAN SYMPATHY CARD
I thought the Origami Folds 3D Embossing Folder created such a pretty background that I chose this one next. I trimmed a piece of lavender shimmer cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″ before embossing it with the design and adhered it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive.
Next, I applied Prism Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Graceful Swan Glimmer Plate Set and Cobalt Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Mini Sincere Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set before cutting them out with their respective dies. (I also added a little color to the swan’s beak with a Copic marker.)
After adding my swan and sentiment to the lower right corner of the card front, I tucked some pretty flowers and leaves behind them that I cut from Glacier, Raindrop, Rainforest, and Mirror Silver Cardstock using the Mini Blooms & Sprigs Die Set. A few Crystal Mix Gems were added to embellish this soft and pretty scene.
