I love using alcohol markers to give otherwise flat die-cuts lots of color and dimension. Here I’ve colored this beautiful three-tiered cake from Rubbernecker in soft colors and added a bright tone-on-tone stamped background for a fun and easy birthday card that still makes an impact.
- Trim a piece of aqua cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″.
- Using Whisper Ink, stamp the confetti image from the Happy Birthday #1 Stamp Set twice to cover the entire panel.
- Once completely dry, stamp a sentiment from the Best Friends Etc. Stamp Set onto the top of the panel with Versamark Ink, add white embossing powder, and melt with a heat tool.
- Die cut white cardstock using the Birthday Cake Die.
- Color the layers and icing with light pink and brown alcohol Tombow ABT Pro markers to give the pieces lots of dimension.
- Cut the cake stand out of gold cardstock using the Birthday Cake Die and assemble the piece with liquid glue.
- Die cut white cardstock using the largest die from the Nested Scallop with Holes Die Set and keep the outermost frame for this project.
- Trim gold cardstock to 4.125″ x 5.375″ and aqua cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″.
- Mat the stamped background with the gold and aqua cardstock panels and then adhere it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner.
- Pop the white frame up on top of the card front with foam adhesive.
- Add the cake die-cut to the center of the card front with more foam adhesive.
- Embellish with turquoise gems.
