With less than two months until Christmas, I’m already running short on time to make enough cards to send this year. Card kits are an easy and fun way to save some time because all of the supplies have been carefully selected to coordinate. And card kits from Spellbinders are always so packed with various types of products that you end up with tons of different styles of cards too.
The Christmas Wishes Card Kit from Spellbinders was released last year, but is being offered again this year if you’re looking to make some classy Christmas cards with a bit of a modern twist. The die set included allows you to create beautiful ornaments AND poinsettias that can be paired with some of the gorgeous sentiments in the stamp set or any of the foiled die-cut shapes. I made 5 cards with the kit and have supplies left over to make tons more!
The eight dies included in this kit are really beautiful and classic designs that you’ll use over and over. I cut white cardstock with the poinsettia dies and blended a little Picked Raspberry and Spun Sugar Distress Ink over them to create pink flowers and Mowed Lawn and Twisted Citron Distress Inks over the leaf die-cuts for some bright foliage. After adhering one of the foiled patterned papers to an included card base, I popped a foiled die-cut shape up in the center of the card and arranged the flowers and leaves around the bottom. For a little more shine, I added some of the gold-flecked jewels included (so pretty!) to the center of the poinsettias.
The rest of the dies in the kit can be used to build these beautiful layered ornaments. I cut mine out of various cardstocks in the kit (the gold cardstock included die cuts beautifully!) and dangled them over a super subtle piece of patterned paper. The I added a spray of gold-flecked jewels to the card for a little more sparkle.
I always try to challenge myself to use all of the major components of a kit, so I wanted to work with the stamp set next. With a couple of different tree images in the set, I thought it’d be fun to create a pine forest snow globe, so I stamped the small scene in Alloy, Dark Wash Jeans, and Marina Madness Hybrid Inks onto some white cardstock. Then I die cut a circle out of a second piece of white cardstock, stamped a beautiful sentiment in the lower right corner, and popped a foiled die cut shape beneath the circular cut-out to form the base of the snow globe.
The last couple of cards I created focus on just the beautiful patterned papers, die cut shapes, and glittered sentiments in the kit. I loved this little hot air balloon die-cut when I saw it, so I created a simple scene for it out of some of the patterned paper in the pad. The row of houses is a sheet of paper trimmed to size, fussy-cut along the top, and popped up on top of the green starry sky paper. I added a little additional die-cut sentiment shape to finish the card.
This last little card includes a special holiday delivery of joy. With a card front created from panels of patterned paper and gold foil cardstock, I popped some of the pretty watercolor die-cut shapes up on top. Then I added one of the glittered sentiment stickers to the center of the wreath…these stickers mimic the look of gold glitter embossing and the effect is beautiful!
