Rainbow Bandana Birthday Card

Of all the stamps in my collection, I think I love my background stamps the most.  They’re just so versatile.  I buy tons of line art image stamps, color them up, and throw them on a card…once…or maybe on really rare occasions, twice.  But my background stamps?  They get used over and over again in tons of different ways, so I never feel guilty buying a new one.

When I realized that this month’s challenge over at A Blog Named Hero was “Birthday”, I thought it’d be a piece of cake.  But as it turns out, I really don’t have many birthday images from Hero Arts.  No worries…I have plenty of background stamps to choose from instead!

I started by trimming a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″.  Then, using my MISTI, I applied five different colors of ink (Red Royal, Orange Soda, Butterbar, Green Hills, and Cornflower) each to a small section of the Bandana Bold Prints stamp and repeatedly stamped it onto my cardstock to create a rainbow background.

Next, I trimmed out two small panels of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock to 1.25″ x 5.5″  and two thin 5.5″ strips of Pitch Black Cardstock.  Then I die cut a sentiment using the Happy Stamp & Cut set from silver glitter cardstock and white cardstock.

I adhered the black strips to the very edge of each white cardstock panel (I love the super fine point on my Zig 2-way glue pen for tiny jobs like this!).  Then I stamped the rest of my greeting on the bottom panel using Versafine Onyx Black Ink.

To assemble the card, adhere the rainbow background to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner, then pop the white panels up on the top and bottom using foam adhesive.  Layer the “happy” die-cuts up using liquid glue and adhere above the rest of the greeting.

At this point, I thought the card was looking a bit plain, so I added a “you are awesome” and a handful of stars to the card front using the Thanks Stamp & Cut set and Versafine Onyx Black Ink (and I’m so glad I did!).

I hope I’ve inspired you to join us over at A Blog Named Hero for this month’s “Birthday” challenge.  Get creative with your favorite Hero Arts products for a chance to win a gift voucher to the Hero Arts store!
