Like many of you, I’ve been doing a lot of daydreaming lately about all of the people and places I’d love to visit right now…friends, family, cozy Italian restaurants, and tropical destinations seem to be on repeat in my head. And when I saw the beautiful Flourished Fretwork Collection by Becca Feeken from Spellbinders, I was reminded of a pretty French-inspired hotel on the boardwalk in my favorite beach town. This collection contains gorgeous, ornate layered designs for creating elegant die-cut projects and I thought it would work beautifully with a beachy aqua, coral, and gold color scheme.
DIECUTTING ALL THOSE LAYERS
Layered die sets like these are such a good investment because there are probably hundreds of ways to combine all of the dies to achieve different looks. I cut tons of layers in different colors and levels of intricacy before deciding on my final design, and I wanted to photograph the final layers here because sometimes it can be difficult to figure out how a highly-layered card is assembled. (Please pardon the step-by-step photography in this tutorial…I was crafting late at night with dim lighting, but thought it was really important to capture these steps!)
- Trim pieces of Shimmery Antique Gold, Shimmery Aqua, and White Pearl Linen Cardstock to 5.25″, 5″, and 4.75″ square, respectively.
- Die cut Shimmery Pink Cardstock with the two largest layers of the Richelieu Square Die Set (large square outline and dotted square border dies).
- Die cut Shimmery Greige Cardstock with the next two largest layers of the Richelieu Square Die Set (smaller square outline and fretwork square dies).
- Die cut White Pearl Linen Cardstock with the smaller square outline die and the circle die (centered within the square shape).
- Die cut Shimmery Aqua Cardstock with the smaller square outline, fretwork square, and fretwork circle dies.
DIECUTTING THE FLORAL ACCENTS
- Die cut the floral swag design from both Shimmery Greige and Antique Gold Cardstocks using the Floral Oval Die Set.
- Die cut the flower layers from both Shimmery Pink and White Pearl Linen Cardstocks using the Floral Oval Die Set.
SHAPING THE FLORAL ACCENTS
- Trim the two leafy ends off of the floral swag die-cuts with scissors and discard the rest.
- Shape each petal of each flower layer from the backside using a medium ball stylus and a circular motion.
- Turn the die-cut over and press in the center using a smaller ball stylus and a circular motion to pop the petals upward.
THE SENTIMENT
- Stamp one of the gorgeous sentiments from the All Occasion Sentiments Stamp & Die Set onto some White Pearl Linen Cardstock with Versamark Ink. Since this cardstock is textured, I stamped it twice using my Mini MISTI.
- Add gold embossing powder and melt it with a heat tool.
- Die cut the sentiment out using the small rectangle die in the All Occasions Sentiments Stamp & Die Set.
CARD ASSEMBLY
- Adhere the Shimmery Antique Gold, Shimmery Aqua, and White Pearl Linen Cardstock layers to a top-folding 5.25″ square white card base using tape runner.
- Adhere the small Shimmery Greige layer to the larger Shimmery Pink layer with liquid glue and then pop this up on top of the matted card front using foam adhesive.
- Adhere the small Shimmery Aqua layer to the small White Pearl Linen layer with liquid glue and then pop this up on top of the pink/greige layer (turned 45 degrees) with foam adhesive.
- Embellish the card with the shaped flowers and leafy flourishes, adhering them to the top layer with hot glue or strong liquid glue. Add gold pearls to the flower centers if desired.
- Curl the sentiment strip with your fingers and adhere it in the lower right corner using liquid glue on the left and foam adhesive on the right.
