Spellbinders/FSJ Stamp of the Month – April 2020

Beautiful is right…I loved this month’s Spellbinders/FSJ Stamp of the Month kit so much, I had to color it twice! Full of gorgeous florals that you can mix and match for endless backgrounds, swags, and borders, the Bold Beautiful stamp set is perfect for all of your pretty springtime projects.

STAMPING THE FLORAL FRAME AND SENTIMENT

Trim a piece of Lavender Cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″ and a small scrap to at least 2.5″ x 3.25″.
Stamp the “beautiful” sentiment in the center of the small scrap of Lavender Cardstock in Versamark ink. Using the window in the middle of the rectangular frame stamp to line it up evenly around the sentiment, stamp the frame in Versamark ink as well. Add platinum embossing powder and melt with a heat tool.
Trim the sentiment panel down to leave just a thin border around the rectangular frame.
Trace around the sentiment panel onto the center of the larger panel with a pencil. Stamp different floral images around the traced line in Versamark ink to form a frame for the sentiment, cover with platinum embossing powder, and melt with a heat tool.

COLORING THE EMBOSSED IMAGES

Color the sentiment in with a smooth layer of white using Prismacolor pencils. Coloring two corners with the darker shade, blend Cobalt Turquoise and Light Aqua around the rectangular frame.
Color the floral images with Prismacolor Pencils, using a light and dark shade for each element, plus white as an ultra contrasting highlight. The colors I used on this card are Violet, Lilac, Mulberry, Hot Pink, Cobalt Turquoise, Light Aqua, Dark Green, Kelly Green, Olive Green, Sap Green Light, and Yellowed Orange.

CARD ASSEMBLY

Adhere the background panel to a top-folding A2-sized white cardbase with tape runner.
Pop the sentiment panel up in the center of the card using foam adhesive.

I also wanted to try soft watercoloring with this stamp set, so I pulled out my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens for the second card. Since some of the leaves and berries in the images are pretty small, the very fine brush tip on these pens helped me get into the tiniest of areas while coloring.

STAMPING THE BACKGROUND PANEL

Trim a piece of Strathmore Bristol Smooth Paper to 4″ x 5.25″ and a small scrap to at least 2.5″ x 3.25″.
Using Morning Mist Versafine Clair ink for a softer impression, stamp the large floral bunch from the Bold Beautiful stamp set repeatedly over the background panel to create your own pattern. For each row of stamping, I turned the image ninety degrees for a little more interest.
Stamp the “beautiful” sentiment in Morning Mist Versafine Clair ink onto the smaller scrap of Strathmore Bristol Smooth Paper.

WATERCOLORING THE IMAGES

Add color to the shadow areas of the flowers using the Yellow Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pen and blend out to the highlight areas using a fine tip waterbrush.
Repeat for the leaves and berries, using Olive Green, Mid Green, and Bright Yellow.
Apply Bright Yellow ink to the base of each letter in the “beautiful” sentiment and blend upward with a fine tip waterbrush.

CARD ASSEMBLY

Mat the background panel with a coordinating color of cardstock and wrap natural twine around the center, tying a bow on the right side.
Adhere the panel to a top-folding A2-sized kraft card base using foam adhesive.
Mat the sentiment with the same color cardstock and pop up on the left side of the card front using foam adhesive.
