Spellbinders Large Die & Clear Stamp of the Month Kits – December 2020

Happy first day of December!  The new club kits are here from Spellbinders and there’s a little something extra special about them this month.  The Large Die of the Month Kit, Small Die of the Month Kit, and Clear Stamp of the Month Kit were all designed to coordinate!  Today I’m sharing ways to use the Large Die and Clear Stamp Kits both together and separately…and I’ll be back soon to do the same with the Small Die of the Month Kit.

The December 2020 Large Die of the Month Kit, “Look Behind The Curtain“, is a brilliant design that creates a interactive curtain card.  Use it in front of a stage (Clear Stamp of the Month), a window (Small Die of the Month), or just a sentiment (see below) for a unique twist on cards for any occasion.

Here you can see how the card will look closed.  I’ve cut my curtain mechanism out of black Crushed Velvet Cardstock for an authentic stage curtain look (check out all of that embossed detail!).  Don’t worry, complete instructions are included with the kit and it’s really quite simple to assemble.

Your recipient will pull on the finials to open the curtain…and there are so many fun things you can hide back there.

I stamped the row of five ballerinas and the Hello Friend sentiment from this month’s Clear Stamp of the Month Kit onto white cardstock with black alcohol-friendly ink, then used Copic markers and dramatic spotlighting to give my recipient something really fun to open up.

After matting it with some Shimmery Aqua Cardstock, I added the entire mechanism to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner.  What a fun way to step up a cute scene like this!

You don’t have to be a colorist to enjoy this kit though…since the interactive curtain is such a showstopper on its own, revealing a simple sentiment like this is perfectly fine.  This time I cut the curtains out of hot pink Crushed Velvet Cardstock to add some of the drama.

The sentiment was foiled in gold onto Pitch Black Cardstock using the Thank You & Happy Birthday Hot Foil Plate Set and my Glimmer Hot Foil Machine.  I added gold “confetti” above and below the sentiment using the Falling Snow from the Glimmer Winter Village Hot Foil Plate Set.

I matted the mechanism with gold cardstock before adhering it to a top-folding A2 white card base with tape runner.  I love all of the drama you can add to an otherwise simple card.

The December Clear Stamp of the Month Kit, “Ballerina Sentiments“, contains several single images of ballerinas too, and I thought they would be adorable on a spinner card.  Choosing the three that were most symmetrical, I stamped two copies of each onto white cardstock using black ink and colored them with Copic markers before fussycutting them out.

Sandwiching translucent thread (you can use fishing line too) between the two copies and adhering them back-to-back with liquid glue, I trimmed off any overhanging areas with scissors.  I cut a window in the front of a top-folding white card base using the Medium Inner Rim Die from the Elegant Twist Rectangles Die Set and adhered some foiled patterned paper from the Merry Wishes Paper Pad on the inside of the card base behind it.

After cutting pink shimmer cardstock with the Large Rectangle Outer Rim, Large Rectangle Pattern, and Medium Inner Rim dies from the Elegant Twist Rectangles Die Set, I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set on it in Versamark Ink, covered it in white embossing powder, and melted it with a heat tool.  The thread running through each little ballerina spinner was then adhered at the top and bottom behind the pink frame using foam adhesive, allowing them to spin freely when the recipient opens the card.

I hope you enjoyed these fun interactive cards and thanks so much for stopping by.  I’ll be back with inspiration for some of the other December club kits very soon!
