Spellbinders May 2023 Club Kits

Happy May Day friends!  The May 2023 Club Kits from Spellbinders have been revealed and there are some beautiful and unique birthday designs this month!  Today I’m sharing seven card projects featuring the Large Die of the Month, Small Die of the Month, Glimmer Kit of the Month, Clear Stamp of the Month Kit, Embossing Folder of the Month, 3D Embossing Folder of the Month, Stitching Die of the Month, and Clear Stamp & Die of the Month Kits.

LARGE DIE OF THE MONTH

This month’s Large Die of the Month Kit, “Balloons & Birthday Wishes“, is a massive set of 18 dies that can be used to create a beautiful dimensional banner that you can add at least five different sentiments to as well as fun balloons and floral elements to accessorize.  I used the set to make this soft and pretty banner card perfect for sending a bright birthday hello!

I started by cutting the banner pieces out of Waterfall and Teal Topaz Cardstock and added sentiments on top cut from Brushed White Cardstock.  Then I assembled the banner with a mix of liquid glue and foam adhesive for tons of dimension.  The balloons were cut from purple cardstock and woven into the layers of the banner.  After adding the banner to a top-folding A2-sized white card base that I had embossed with this month’s 3D Embossing Folder of the Month, I embellished with a few floral bunches (included in the set!) and some Crystal Mix Gems.

SMALL DIE OF THE MONTH

This month’s Small Die of the Month Kit, “Flyby Greetings“, is another fun set perfect for unique birthday cards.  The kit contains 13 cutting dies that allow you to cut an adorable biplane as well three different sentiment banners and a couple of fluffy clouds.  I created a simple birthday card using the kit in pinks and gold for an adorable girl turning five this year.

I started by piecing the plane together from a variety of pink cardstocks, adding Mirror Gold accents for a little fun.  The banner was cut out of white and Fog Cardstock, but I added a little Metallic Gold Ink to the sentiment on the die before cutting for a letterpress look.  To create the backgroud, I embossed a piece of Glacier Cardstock using the Head In The Clouds Embossing Folder, inked around the edges with Salty Ocean Distress Ink, and added a few clouds cut with the kit.  Crystal Mix Gems finish off this simple and fun card.

GLIMMER KIT OF THE MONTH

This month’s Glimmer Kit of the Month, “Silhouette Balloon Greetings” contains 3 Glimmer plates that can be used to foil big, bold sentiments as well as eight dies to cut a fun balloon window around those sentiments.  An optional add-on set, “Balloon Greeting Sentiments“, gives you two more fun sentiments to use with your balloon window!  I applied Rainbow Confetti Hot Foil to Island Blue Cardstock and cut the balloon shape out behind it with the kit for this fun birthday shaker card.

Once foiled and cut, I masked off the greeting and splattered Silver Lining, Prom Queen, and Shooting Star Lunar Paste (diluted with a little water) onto the panel for a fun confetti look.  Then I adhered some acetate behind the balloon cut-out and added Pink, Teal, and Aura Opalescent Sequins to the shaker window.  I love this simple and fun birthday card!

STITCHING DIE OF THE MONTH

This month’s Stitching Die of the Month is another fun one with simple stitching perfect for beginners!  This month’s kit, “Stitched Balloon Card Front“, is a single die that creates a fun balloon bouquet card front pattern and also allows you to cut both plain and stitched balloon shapes to add on top (or even for use on other cards).  I chose to use all stitched balloons on this card and blended a rainbow of Distress Oxide Inks onto the balloons before stitching them with gold metallic thread.

The background panel was cut from Glacier Cardstock and inked around the edges with Salty Ocean Distress Ink before adhering it on top of Mirror Gold Cardstock.  Then I added the balloons to the card front with a mix of liquid glue and foam adhesive for some dimension.  To finish off the card, I foiled two sentiments in gold onto white cardstock using the Yana’s Special Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set and the Just Wanted to Say Glimmer Plate Set and added a few Gold Mix Gems.

CLEAR STAMP & DIE OF THE MONTH KIT

This month’s Clear Stamp of the Month Kit, “All About You Wishes” is a set of 4 stamps that contains one giant party background image and three beautiful sentiments to stamp alongside of it.  If your subscription includes the coordinating dies, you’ll also get 10 dies to cut several different images (both the background as well as some of the icons from the background) and all of the sentiments out.  I stamped the background image onto white cardstock twice with black alcohol-friendly ink and colored everything with my Copic markers for this bright and fun birthday card.

Once colored, I used one of the images to cut the entire background pattern out with the two largest coordinating dies.  Then I cut the cupcake, party hats, and present out of the second copy using the single icon dies and popped them up on top of the background panels.  I love the option to either use the full background or just a few single images from the stamp on a card!  After adhering the images on top of a piece of Waterfall Cardstock that I had embossed using this month’s Embossing Folder of the Month, I added a couple of greetings from the set as well.

3D EMBOSSING FOLDER OF THE MONTH

This month’s 3D Embossing Folder of the Month is so fun and versatile!  “Balloons & Banners” is huge party pattern consisting of layered birthday balloons and tiny banners perfect for any kind of celebration card.  I inked a panel of white cardstock with Salvaged Patina, Squeezed Lemonade, and Kitsch Flamingo Distress Ink before embossing it with the Balloons & Banners Embossing Folder, then added the same colors back over top to bring out the design a bit more.

I loved the beautiful pattern so much that I wanted to keep the rest of the card simple, so I matted the panel with Mirror Gold Cardstock and added it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base.  Then I applied Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Silhouette Balloon Greetings Glimmer Kit and cut it out most of the way with the coordinating dies (I trimmed it out the rest of the way really easily with scissors).  After popping the sentiment up on the card front with foam adhesive, I added a few Gold Mix Gems to embellish.

EMBOSSING FOLDER OF THE MONTH

Lastly, let me finally introduce you to this month’s Embossing Folder of the Month, “Candles For Every Birthday“.  It is the perfect fun background for birthday cards and can be used in a ton of ways!  I embossed a panel of white cardstock with it and then colored the candles on the DE-bossed side with Copic markers before rubbing a Black Soot Distress Ink pad over the raised areas for this bold and bright birthday card.

To match the colorful background, I applied Mini Rainbow Stripe Hot Foil to white cardstock using a greeting from the Balloon Greetings Sentiment add-on set and cut it out with the coordinating dies and a pair of scissors.  After popping it up on top of the card front with foam adhesive, I embellished with a few Crystal Mix Gems.
