Happy Thursday friends! I’m excited to be back today to share a beautiful new collection from Spellbinders – the Tulip Garden Collection by Simon Hurley. This collection contains gorgeous tulip-themed dies and an embossing folder (with coordinating layering stencils) perfect for spring cards. Here I’m sharing four easy cards made with the collection for a variety of occasions.
HELLO FRIEND CARD
My favorite item in the collection (and probably the most unique too!) is the Twirling Tulips 3D Embossing Folder & Stencil Bundle. I embossed a half-sheet of white cardstock (5.5″ x 8.5″) in the embossing folder and then added various colors of Distress Inks (links in supply list below) through the different layers of the coordinating stencil set. When I was finished, I cut two panels out of the large half-sheet – an A2-sized panel for this card and a smaller border strip for the next card.
I didn’t want to cover up much of the pretty background I had just created, but also wanted to give it a little interest, so I trimmed the panel into three strips measuring about 1.25″ x 5.25″ and adhered them onto an A2-sized panel of Graphite Cardstock with foam adhesive. To finish off the card, I added a sentiment cut using the Handwritten Sentiments Die Set and a couple of Crystal Mix Gems to embellish.
TULIP BORDER BIRTHDAY CARD
From that same giant panel that I had embossed and colored using the Twirling Tulips 3D Embossing Folder & Stencil Bundle, I trimmed out a smaller piece measuring around 3″ x 5.25″. To create an easy border for this card, I fussy-cut around the top edges of the flowers and popped it up on top of a piece of Cosmic Sky Cardstock.
After matting the panel with Mirror Silver Cardstock and adhering it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base, I added a sentiment cut from the same silver cardstock using the Handwritten Sentiments Die Set. To finish off the card, I embellished with a few Crystal Mix Gems.
TULIP BOUQUET LOVE CARD
Spellbinders is known for their beautifully-detailed flower dies and now we have a set of tulips that I’ll be pulling out every spring! I cut Pink Sand, Chamomile, Persimmon, and Rainforest Cardstock using the Tulip Trio Die Set and added shading with Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Ripe Persimmon, and Mowed Lawn Distress Inks, respectively, before assembling with liquid glue. Then I cut white cardstock using one of Heartfelt Thanks & Scallops Die Set and blended Salvaged Patina and Peacock Feathers Distress Ink up from the bottom to create a background for the flowers.
To assemble the card, I embossed a piece of Cosmic Sky Cardstock using the Woven 3D Embossing Folder and adhered it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base before popping the tulips and their background panel up on top with foam adhesive. Then I added a pretty sentiment from the Handwritten Sentiments Die Set, a sweet butterfly from the So Many Butterflies Die Set, as well as a few Crystal Mix Gems.
CLEAN AND SIMPLE THANKS CARD
Lastly, I loved the new Everyday Foliage Die Set…these are the kind of die-cuts you’ll use as fillers for bouquets or as a simple focal point like I’ve done here. I cut two of the branches out of heavyweight vellum from my stash and Graphite Cardstock for this simple masculine thank you card.
To create the background, I masked off the edges of a piece of white cardstock using Mint Tape and blended Salvaged Patina, Peacock Feathers, and Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink onto the center of the panel. Before removing my tape, I also added some texture using the new Splatter White Opaque Watercolor (available in just a few days if you’re not a club member – this stuff creates the perfect white splatters!). Once dry, I mounted the panel onto a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive, adhered the sprigs to the one side with liquid glue, and added a sentiment cut from white and Graphite Cardstock using the Handwritten Sentiments Die Set.
