Are you ready for some gorgeous new products from Spellbinders? The October Release includes a fun new collection by Simon Hurley, a beautiful exclusive holiday stitching collection, and an amazing crafty advent calendar (pre-order). I created tons of projects with this release, so let’s get started with one of my favorites!
JOYFUL CHRISTMAS BY SIMON HURLEY
Simon Hurley’s debut collection with Spellbinders is somehow both cute and classy at the same time. With fun die designs, beautiful stamps, and elegant Glimmer plates, there really is something for everyone! I created five cards with some of the products in the collection and hope to share even more soon.
FESTIVE DEER CARD
I thought the Floral Stag Die Set was so charming, I decided to work with it first (I love his slightly confused expression!). I cut some light and bright cardstock using the die set and pieced him together easily with liquid glue. To add to his funny look, I placed the holly branches in his antlers instead of his bouquet.
To create the background, I applied Prism Hot Foil to Waterfall Cardstock using the Geo Snowflakes Glimmer Plate, trimmed it 4″ x 5.25″, and added it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive. Then I foiled a matching sentiment on white cardstock using the Joyful Christmas Sentiments Glimmer Plate, cut it out with the coordinating dies (included), and popped it up on top of the card front with the deer and his flowers.
PEPPERMINT DEER CARD
And speaking of cute deer, the Winter Woodland Stamp Set has two of them! Here I stamped one with a cute gift onto some white cardstock, colored them in with Copic markers, and cut them out using the coordinating dies. To lift them off of the busy background, I cut a circle using the Fluted Classics Circles Die Set, stamped a little sentiment from the Winter Woodland Stamp Set, and added them on top with foam adhesive.
That fabulous background was made with the new Candy Stripes Die Set…cut once for a classic candy stripe and twice for a beautiful plaid (bottom layer flipped over)! I cut white and Phone Booth Cardstock with the die set and backed it with some Pink Sand Cardstock for a pretty peppermint plaid background.
HALFTONE ORNAMENTS CARD
Another gorgeous stamp set in the release is the Halftone Holiday Stamp Set. Perfectly shaded so that you get tons of depth without touching an alcohol marker, these stamps are great for mass-producing Christmas cards. I stamped the ornaments in the set onto white cardstock using green and red inks and cut them out with the coordinating dies before adding some gold twine as a hanger.
The background was created by stamping the pine branches, cones, and berries from the Halftone Holiday Stamp Set onto Portobello Cardstock using light brown ink. After trimming it to 4″ x 5.25″, I matted it with some Mirror Gold Cardstock and added it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive. Then I popped the ornaments up on top along with a pretty sentiment foiled in gold using the Joyful Christmas Sentiments Glimmer Plate.
FOILED HOLLY WREATH CARD
It’s safe to say that I love the Geo Snowflakes Glimmer Plate, so I used it again for a more elegant look this time. After applying Matte Gold Hot Foil to Phone Booth Cardstock using the background plate, I trimmed the piece to 4″ x 5.25″, matted it with Mirror Gold Cardstock, and added it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner.
I stamped a few holly leaves and berries from the Halftone Holiday Stamp Set onto Rainforest and Poppy Field Cardstock using slightly darker inks and cut them out using the coordinating dies. I also foiled a matching matte gold sentiment onto white cardstock using the Joyful Christmas Sentiments Glimmer Plate and popped them all up on top of a small circle cut using the Fluted Classics Circles Die Set.
FROSTY BEARS CARD
Another fun way to use Glimmer plates is to create background stamps with them! I pressed my Geo Snowflakes Glimmer Plate onto a piece of heated Stamping Foam to create this beautiful patterned stamp. Then I applied Spun Sugar, Shaded Lilac, and Tumbled Glass to my “stamp” and created a pretty winter sky on white cardstock. To create the snowy hill, I cut some white cardstock using the Color Block Scenic Scape Die Set.
I thought the bears from the Winter Woodland Stamp Set were perfect for this scene, so I stamped them out and colored them with Copic markers before cutting them out with the coordinating dies. I added them to this simple winter scene with foam adhesive and popped a pretty sentiment in the corner from the Joyful Christmas Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set (foiled in Prism Hot Foil).
LAYERED DIAMOND STITCHING COLLECTION
The second beautiful collection being released today is much smaller and exclusive to the Spellbinder’s site. The Layered Diamond Stitching Collection consists of a limited edition background stitching die set and coordinating stamp set perfect for holiday cards or projects all year round. I created three different cards today to show just a few of the combinations you can use to make unique stitched backgrounds.
OMBRE BIRTHDAY WISH CARD
With removable components and plenty of layers, the Layered Stitched Diamonds Die Set can give you several different looks. Here I cut Waterfall Cardstock with the large background pattern first, then cut the “holes” using some of the insert dies. Once cut, I stitched the entire design with blue variegated thread for a fun ombre look.
I stamped a sentiment from the Layered Diamond Sentiments Stamp Set onto the center of a top-folding A2-sized white card base using Versafine Clair Blue Belle Ink. (Don’t like stitching? You can use these sentiments with the Essential Diamonds Die Set too!) After popping the stitched panel on top with foam adhesive, I added some Crystal Mix Gems to embellish.
SPARKLING CHRISTMAS STITCHED CARD
For this bold holiday card, I cut and stitched allllll the components from the Layered Stitched Diamonds Die Set. Using Phone Booth Cardstock for the background, I added gold and silver thread first. Then I cut the inserts out of Mirror Gold Cardstock and stitched them all using white thread.
I added the background directly to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with liquid glue, then popped up all of the inserts with foam adhesive. To finish off this card, I added just a simple sentiment foiled in gold using the Glitter Wishes Glimmer Plate Set…with all of that stitching and shine, I didn’t think it needed anything else!
PASTEL STITCHED HELLO CARD
Lastly, I thought all of that stitching was perfect for a soft and pretty baby card. I cut the background and inserts out of white cardstock using the Layered Stitched Diamonds Die Set and added soft pink, yellow, and mint thread to it for a pretty pastel look.
I added the background to a white card base and stamped a sentiment from the Layered Diamonds Sentiment Stamp Set onto white cardstock in soft blue ink. After popping it up in the center with foam adhesive, I added a few Crystal Mix Gems to the corners for a little sparkle.
