Hello friends! I’m excited to be back today to share a couple of projects made with the new Seahorse Kisses Collection by Dawn Woleslagle from Spellbinders. (Check out the entire April release here…so much good stuff!) This collection contains beautiful seahorse and ocean-inpired stamps, dies, and Glimmer plates perfect for summertime or anytime cards. I used some of the products in the collection to create three soft and pretty ocean cards to send to a friend.
SEAHORSE FLORAL FRIENDSHIP CARD
The Seahorse Floral Glimmer Plate Set is a big, beautiful foil design that takes up nearly an entire card front. It looks gorgeous colored with Copics or watercolors, but I decided to go a more ethereal route. I started by applying Opaque White Hot Foil to white cardstock using the large Glimmer plate in the set, and then blended Salvaged Patina, Salty Ocean, and Uncharted Mariner Distress Ink over the entire panel with a foam blending tool. “Painting” the entire design with fresh water and blotting with a paper towel left me with a kinda ghostly image that I loved!
To create the frame, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and cut out the center using one of the dies from the Essential Stylish Ovals Die Set before embossing it with the new Cast Away 3D Embossing Folder. A sentiment from the Seahorse Garden Stamp & Die Set stamped in matching Uncharted Mariner Distress Oxide Ink (I often turn to the Distress Oxide Inks to stamp sentiments that match my backgrounds!) and a few Crystal Mix Gems finish off this fun card.
SEAHORSE GARDEN FRIENDSHIP CARD
Next I wanted to try a more colorful card with the gorgeous Seahorse Garden Stamp & Die Set, so I stamped out the images onto white cardstock and colored them in bright colors using my Copic markers. Once cut out with the coordinating dies, I started to arrange them into a little scene.
To create the background, I trimmed a piece of Glacier Cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and blended Salty Ocean and Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink in the lower left corner. After embossing the inked panel using the Cast Away 3D Embossing Folder, I rubbed a white pigment ink pad over the raised areas to bring out the design a bit more and stamped a greeting in the top corner using the same stamp set. To finish off this fun card, I added the colored images to the card front with foam adhesive and embellished with a few Crystal Mix Gems.
MONOCHROMATIC OCEAN CARD
Lastly, I wanted to create a soft, monochromatic card with the remaining Glimmer plate images in the collection. I applied Pastel Mint Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Under The Sea Glimmer Plate Set and added just a few strokes of shadows with a single Copic marker (BG11) before cutting them out with the coordinating dies. I also foiled the sentiment in the same way using the Seahorse Floral Glimmer Plate Set.
The background was created by trimming a piece of white cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″, embossing it with the Scallops Embossing Folder, and inking around the edges with Salvaged Patina Distress Ink. Once the images and sentiment were adhered with foam adhesive, I added some Aquamarine AB Gems as bubbles to finish off the card.
