Anyone still working on holiday cards? I actually enjoy working on them until the very end and hand a few out in person, so today I’m sharing a quick tutorial to make this easy Christmas card using two stencils from Clear Scraps in unique ways. The Xmas Trees Stencil is super versatile and is perfect for last-minute tags and cards.
I started by trimming a piece of dark blue cardstock to 4″ x 6″ and securing the Xmas Trees Stencil on top using low-tack tape. Then I applied white pigment ink through the stencil using a small sponge dauber and a pouncing motion to ensure none of the ink crept under the stencil. (Pigment ink pads can be quite juicy…a quick spritz of low-tack adhesive spray would help here too!)
Once the pigment ink had dried fully, I colored over the white images with colored pencils so that I had trees in lots of different bright colors – olive, raspberry, and classic pine! Since the images are quite graphic, I threw realism out the window and went for high contrast shadows and highlights with my coloring.
Next, I placed the Snowflake stencil on top of the colored panel and dotted a spot of liquid glue through each of the openings, then popped a super sparkly clear rhinestone on top. If you struggle with sequin or other embellishment placement on cards, this technique makes it super easy by essentially using the stencil as a template for the perfect spacing.
To finish the card, I die cut a simple sentiment (a retired die from Stampin’ Up) out of white cardstock three times and stacked them up on top the tree panel using liquid glue to make it really stand out. Then I matted the panel with silver cardstock and adhered it all to a top-folding white card base measuring 4.5″ x 6.5″.
