Woodland Christmas Tree Card

As the weather gets colder and snowier, far fewer critters are running around my backyard.  But the grey squirrels?  They’re at the peak of their season of craziness.  We have a ton of black walnut trees in our neighborhood…and the squirrels LOVE collecting them this time of year when the husks have rotted off and the shells are beginning to crack open.  Of course, they leave them lying on the ground from late summer until late fall when the nuts are basically giant, hard, slippery marbles for you to twist your ankle on, but I love watching their antics now nonetheless and decided to  feature that lovable creature on today’s card using an ultra cute Stamp & Cut set by Hero Arts.

I started by stamping out several of the images from the Christmas Squirrels set onto Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock using Obsidian Amalgam Ink.  Since I knew I would be needing several of the branch images, I broke out my MISTI for some quick repeat stamping.

I colored the images quickly with Copic markers and then die cut them out using the coordinating dies included in the set.  The squirrel image doesn’t have a matching die, so I quickly trimmed him out with a similar thin, white border using detail scissors.

The background was super easy to create.  I stamped several snowflakes from the set onto a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock in Versamark ink, covered it in white detail embossing powder, and melted it with my heat tool.  Then I trimmed a snow drift out of masking paper by hand and adhered it to the bottom before lightly blending Pool and Soft Pool ink above using a blending brush, and Soft Granite ink below.

The background panel was adhered to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive after stamping a sweet sentiment from the stamp set in the same Obsidian Amalgam Ink.  Then I arranged my branches on the left side of the card front to form a scrawny, imperfect tree (snipping apart pieces of the branches as needed) and added the squirrel and his acorn ornament next to it with foam adhesive.

I hope you enjoyed this simple and sweet Christmas card project and thanks so much for stopping by today.  A new challenge begins over at A Blog Named Hero on the 15th with great prizes from Hero Arts, so I hope you’ll join us!
